A new painting in my "The Journey is The Adventure" series. This one is called "Reaching For the Stars" and its probably the most philosophical painting I have done so far. Its an installation piece and really needs to be seen in motion, which you can see in the video further below. "Reaching For The Stars", Vikram Madan, Acrylic on Canvas, 12" x 24", 2014
![]() Attention everyone: Please come to my next art show that opens Feb 1st at Local Color Gallery & Café in Pike Place Market. The opening reception is from 6-8pm on Feb 1st Saturday. The show itself will run all through Feb and March so be sure to stop by even if you can't come to the reception. I will be presenting a collection of THIRTY (30!) whimsical humorous oil paintings from my Happy Coffee series. You won't be disappointed! :) Here are a few recent works.
The first, titled 'Coffee, With Football' is my little tribute to the Seahawks who are on their way to the Superbowl. The second, titled 'Bigfoot Plays The Tango' is the first of what I hope will be several bigfoot themed paintings. Bigfoot, as you know, is a native of the Pacific Northwest. The third, titled 'Coffee, With Medieval Sea Monster' is the result of looking at too many books about medieval sea maps. 'The Bubble Collector' book is now available at Seattle's popular book store Mockingbird Books and also in downtown Edmonds at the Edmonds Bookshop.
Additionally, school libraries can now purchase the book through the Mackin catalog. If you know a school librarian you can ask them to look it up in Mackin. Meet RoboTotoro ... a steam-punk-ish version of My Neighbor Totoro. This piece is headed to an art show titled 'A Child's Heart (A Tribute To The Work Of Hayao Miyazaki)' which will be opening on Jan 10th, 2014 in Seattle's Greenwood Neighborhood. ![]() Update Jan 10th: And here is RoboTotoro hanging out with his other Miyazaki inspired friends at the opening of the show.... Here's my first formally completed piece of 2014: This one is titled "Look What I Found!" and is part of my "The Journey is the Adventure" series. It will be hanging at the Otherworlds steampunk store in Edmonds during this month.
A quick behind the scenes peak at my process:
Closing up Dec 31st with 2 little portraits of Jack Skellington done for a local Tim-Burton-themed show, titled 'The Nightmare After Christmas', running at the Trabant Café in downtown Seattle in January.
